The Arran Knitting Company was set up by textile artist Lynn Gray Ross in October 2006, along with her daughter and two sons, to make Lynn’s designs and expertise available worldwide in 21st century form.
The company received assistance from NAC Business Development to set up their website initially, and it’s now so popular it receives tens of thousands of page views per year, helping to keep the traditional craft skill alive.
The company are always changing their product range to meet the demands of their many customers across the world, and have recently introduced a new line of patterns on their island-based website.
Commenting on their recent developments, Lynn Gray Ross said; ‘Our new designs hope to bring a Latin-American sizzle to traditional Scottish designs, as ‘The Blue Bunnit’ has been knitted in hand-spun alpaca yarn from a fair trade project in Uruguay, bringing a new look to a Scottish favourite. On the website there are scarf patterns in alpaca to download free, a list of recommended yarn suppliers and a hints, techniques and queries page for knitters of all abilities. We aim to provide exciting knitting patterns based on traditional island knitwear, each with a contemporary twist.’
Knitters can also access recommended resources on the website directly, subscribe to a free knitting newsletter, take part in surveys and comment on the issues which affect knitters in these days of economic change.
