Early this year as part of the recent overhaul of the way small businesses are supported throughout Scotland, the Scottish Government decided to transfer the management of the Business Gateway service to Local Authorities.

Alex Anderson, North Ayrshire Council's Economic Development Manager, is confident that the local authorities can bring a new dimension to the work of Business Gateway. “It is a challenge. The contract to run Business Gateway lasts for another four years and I am convinced we can improve and expand the service.”

He added, 'our Business Development staff within the Local Authorities are already experienced and knowledgeable in activities such as accessing European funding and maximising the use of other business support services, which can complement and enhance the Business Gateway'.
